a horses life, ode to Charlie
For Charlie Brown
May you always have green pasture
To enjoy the whole day long
And a shady tree to lie beneath
While the sun and moon go on.
May your nicker be remembered
When we look upon nearby hills
May all your people surely know
That your long life was filled.
May your hooves tread ever lightly
As your way was gentle and quiet
Charlie our friend for a space in time
To you we say good night.

Charlie was best friend to our mares and baby colt Gilford for over 3 years; he kindly shared his pasture and the last years of his life with them, and now lies at rest under his favorite tree (shown in this photo-art), overlooking the Belknap mountains.
