First longeing try is dizzying

Posted in Horses for the horse crazy at 6:07 pm by HorseGal

Well, I longed Princess for the first time the other day! My biggest problem —
getting dizzy!! Big time dizzy! Wow — I had not even given a thought to that
possibility. I had to stop after only a minute and let Margie take over otherwise
I’d have fallen over!

Margie had Princess first trotting then brought her to the canter on the longe
line! What a site to see. And Princess was so good. Did exactly what was asked
of her. I want to try it again, but for a longer period of time. I want to get good
at it, but I need to be able to stand up while doing it, so I will need to learn
how to ignore the dizziness! I don’t think it looks like you know what you’re
doing if you’re always falling over while you’re longeing!

I was actually reading a book this weekend that addresses the problem of getting dizzy when longeing. I’m going to have to look that up and send it to you! I think it has something to do with watching the middle of the horse and not just his hindquarters???

    Very funny post.

I have longed for our equestrian vaulting practices and remember getting this kind of dizzy feeling when the vaulting horse is cantering with a kid standing on her back. That’s the time when you surely can’t pass out on your vaulter! I think what makes my head spin most of all is knowing that I’ve got to keep that horse’s rhythm and cadence even while that vaulter’s doing her thing up there or she might come tumbling (well, actually, they just jump) off.
