Hmmm… same sort of thing was a small part of Cavalia, which I have mentioned here before. Also see Andalusian stallion at liberty my post and Apassionata with Andalusian stallion video on BRIDLEPATH.

I hope Cavalia comes back to New England someday! Their website is nice but doesn’t offer any videos, I assume their word of mouth is so strong they don’t have to show video previews. Bummer that I couldn’t find any Cavalia videos even on YouTube, they don’t allow cameras into their performances but I thought somebody would have managed to sneak one in anyway. I wish I could have– : (

Rescued horse saved from slaughter

Posted in Horses for the horse crazy at 1:37 pm by petArtist Cmoses

These pictures begin HorseGal’s own personal story of Princess Paulownia, a 10 yr.old thoroughbred mare who raced for years, left the track, and was destined for a dogfood can before some wonderful ladies acquired her from a slaughter house.

thoroughbredRescueHorse.jpg
Early picture after her rescue. Right now Princess has the attitude of a Cinderella– she is docile and willing and to our eyes happy at her turn of fate. She seems to trust us people even after all she’s been through. AND she seems sound in spite of cosmetic blemishes that we may never know how she got.

MareSavedFromSlaughter.jpg
Princess she is called, and someday she may live up to her name in appearance– once she recovers fully from her trials at the hands of humans.

Margie, Princess’ new savior, lets HorseGal visit, ride, and otherwise dote on Princess. This mare replaces a previous horse that HorseGal helped care for, Sam, who passed on last spring.

Follow Princess’ progress in HorseGal’s blogs (future reports will follow):

The Princess and the Canter

Posted in Horses for the horse crazy at 1:33 pm by petArtist Cmoses

Princess has been doing very well with all her gaits except for transitioning up to the Canter. Margie was having trouble getting Princess to Canter without running (fast-Trotting) into it– and running full steam at that! When Margie told me she didn’t know how to teach Princess to transition up the proper way, I knew EXACTLY who I wanted to call… Connie’s daughter Emmie!!!

1MargieEmHorseGalMeet.jpg
Margie and HorseGal introduce Emmie to Princess, thoroughbred rescue horse which Emmie will ride.

2prepareRideHorse.jpg
Chatting about how Emmie plans to work with Princess on the canter depart.

Em & Connie & hubby came out and met “The Princess!” I was so excited to have them see her in person. When they got there, Em first watched Princess while someone else rode her. Then Emmie herself got on Princess and worked with her on getting her to transition up to Canter from Trot the proper way… and I could see it start to happen right in front of my eyes.

3walkHorseTraining.jpg
Em starts out walking the mare, getting a sense of her responsiveness level, which was very high.

5CanterRescueHorse.jpg
After a few attempts to “just trot faster” and being gently slowed back down again (collected) by Emmie, Princess begins to understand what the cues for canter mean. Em never scolds her or gets after her for trying, because the mare is very willing to speed up but just doesn’t totally understand what her rider wants.

Rotary exchange student meets harness horse

Posted in Horses for the horse crazy at 9:26 pm by petArtist Cmoses

WELCOME to our newest exchange student Kentaro!!! who moved in with us December 2. Through the Rotary-sponsored youth exchange Ken is our third student in three years. Here from Japan since August, Ken is 16 and a high school junior. He will live with three different families during his visit (we are his second host family.)

HarnessHorseBarnKenGilford
Kentaro meets Gilford, our 3 yr.old Arabian/percheron harness horse.

GroundDriveHarnessCart.jpg
Preparing to harness up, a little ground driving first… Peaches wants to come!

We already have taken Ken on a carriage ride excursion behind Gilford. Ken seemed to have fun although totally unaccustomed to horses, which are not common in Japan. Ken’s English is quite good, he is fitting right in to “Village” life, and we are excited to have him with us for the next four months.

Already Gilford knows how to speed up when heading for home!
