September 6-8 found us near Bradford NH at another drive/ride put on by Granite State Carriage Association. Sharing these pictures from horseback of a lovely area in the south western part of the state.

Newbury, near Bradford in South West New Hampshire, offers lovely rural scenery and dirt roads, woods trails and railroad beds to explore via horseback and horsedrawn cart or carriage. On September 5-9, lucky participants enjoyed horse camping in a gorgeous 30-acre flat field with adjacent stream, and playing with their horses on the Newbury Drive, which is one of the GSCA’s favorites and best-attended.

Horse cart drivers head out to explore!

Dad with Gilford in Newbury road cut on an old railroad bed. This rock cut nearly 50 feet deep was done by hand!

A nice trail section on a former railroad bed…

Willy checks out a strange mustang in a local sand quarry!
About 20 campsites were established for up to four nights, with many more trailers coming in for day trips, and even more folks showing up for the picnic Saturday afternoon. Just guessing, nearly 70 people with maybe 40 horses were in attendance over the four days, plus numerous dogs and at least one CAT!

Our guys just back from a fine trip!

Gilford and Willy rest up between excursions in their temporary electric fencing paddock.
Riding and driving out was at our leisure, using guide maps provided. Many horses may have gotten their first introduction to llamas when passing the farm across the street! The weather couldn’t have been nicer, with clear skies at night displaying the Milky Way and an occasional shooting star!

One driver playing on a cones and obstacle course for driving!

Peaches joined us and was so happy to be with us She rode in the floor of the horsecart!

BBQ enjoyed by all on Saturday afternoon…
