Taking photographic enhancement a step closer to fine art, this Photo-Art effect combines a black and white background with the color image of the half-grown pointer Hesse, whose liver spotted coloration was thereby enhanced.
Notice how the dog's head in particular stands out from the background so much more than in the color reference photo. Digital techniques used here are lightening, blurring and "smearing" of the background, and deletion of the dog's collar and rope. These methods serve to focus the viewer's total attention onto the dog, resulting in a dramatic and striking art image printed on textured artist's paper.
